sci-universe:

For many ancient cultures, a comet’s appearance in the sky was seen as a precursor to destruction, disease and other major problems that mean bad news for the people of the region.

The comet of 1664 sent shivers of threat throughout Europe, and the terror seem justify when the plague and the Great Fire of London followed soon after.

But for one child, the comet was not the least bit frightening. For him, it was a thing of wonder.”

That child was Edmond Halley, an English scientist who predicted the orbits of comets around the sun for the first time. By recognizing a pattern in his research, Halley was the first to track the period of the comet eventually named for him.

Oh, let me count the ways:

She’s incredibly sarcastic

She has a strong friendship with a guy and it never turns sexual or romantic

She’s beautiful

But it’s largely her mind and intuition, her mental abilities that the show focuses on

Oh god guys. JK Rowling is a genius, and so is this person.

the thing I love about this fandom is that there are 7 books and 8 movies to observe. so every once in a while some blessed soul finds a piece of information that makes all the magic resurface again

Mind. Blown.

Oh Lord…it’s a metaphor too. It’s symbolic of Neville holding on to his past, the horrors of what happened to his parents, of being a passive vessel for that atrocity. As if the terrible thing kept happening and would never stop happening.

When he moves forward and becomes part of his own story instead of the story of his past, his strength surges.

Reblogging this again because it got better

People who hate Harry Potter missed the a giant part of the story. Despite being abused by his aunt, uncle and cousin his whole life Harry was kind, compassionate, loyal, protective and honest. He defended those who needed it and stood up to those who deserved it. He didn’t become bitter or hateful. And he spent his life trying to protect others. You can’t hate him because people chose to stand by him even if it meant they’d die. He didn’t want that, he wanted everyone to live even if it meant he couldn’t anymore.

"Believe me, I know exactly how screwed up I am. You, Bobby, Cas…I’m the least of any of you. No, it’s true. It is. But…I’m also all we got. If there was another way…But I don’t think there is. There’s just me. So I don’t know what else to do. Except just try t-to do what’s got to be done.”  [xx]
